James Corazzo is Associate Head at the Sheffield Creative Industries Institute, Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Over the past 25 years, he has held a range of roles across institutions, including Course Leader, Senior Lecturer, and Principal Lecturer in Graphic Design. Since 2015, he has taken on leadership and research roles that champion the power of good teaching and studio-based education as the difference that makes a difference.
He is a strong advocate for design education and for design's potential to shape equitable and transformative futures. This commitment drives his research and leadership in creative education. In 2014, James co-founded the Graphic Design Educators’ Network, a subject association for Graphic Design. James is a convener for the Design Research Society's Education Special Interest Group. In 2022, he was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship for his sustained and outstanding impact on student experience and outcomes.
James’s research investigates the social, cultural, and material assemblages of design education. He uses creative, ethnographic, and theoretically informed approaches to study design education as the intersection of place, people and practice. His publications include "Studio Properties: A Field Guide to Design Education" (Bloomsbury, 2025).
